Bridge Mills Galway Language Centre has run since 1987, making it the longest established English language school in Galway. It started as a small group of teachers focused on genuine teaching quality and personal attention, and that focus has carried through nearly four decades of continuous operation.

The school is based inside the Bridge Mills building, an 18th-century mill on the River Corrib, right in the centre of Galway city. Classrooms look out over the river, with Galway Bay and the hills of County Clare visible in the distance, a genuinely distinctive setting most schools can’t offer.

This is an adult-only school, built around small group teaching rather than large-scale volume. Courses run year-round, covering General and Business English across morning, afternoon and evening schedules, along with private tuition for students who want a more focused pace.

The school holds a serious accreditation record, recognised by ACELS, QQI, MEI, ALTO and Eaquals, and operates as an official Cambridge and IELTS examination centre. For students working toward a specific qualification, that means sitting the real exam at the same school where they studied.

Outside the classroom, a weekly social programme runs alongside the coursework, with trips to places like the Aran Islands, the Cliffs of Moher and Connemara. Combined with Galway’s own compact, walkable city centre, students get a genuine base to build both their English and their social life around.

Main Airports
Shannon Airport (SNN) is the preferable option for convenience and proximity, sitting just 65 kilometres south of Galway. Dublin Airport (DUB) is the most popular choice because it is Ireland’s largest international hub and offers the widest selection of incoming global flights.
Classes run from 09:00 to 10:30 and from 10:45 to 12:15 in the morning. Afternoon classes run from 13:00 to 15:00 and from 15:15 to 17:00. Both schedules give you 20 lessons, which equals 15 hours of classroom study every week.
You will be marked absent if you arrive more than 5 minutes late to class or leave 5 minutes early. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, your teacher will not let you into the room and you must wait until after the break to join the lesson. Students who require a visa must keep an attendance rate of at least 85 percent for their entire programme.
You must email or text the school on your first day of illness and on every day that you are away after that. When you return to school, you must give a doctor’s certificate to the office on your first day back. If you take sick leave without giving the school a medical note from a doctor, you may face formal disciplinary steps for absenteeism.
Unscheduled breaks and holidays are not allowed during your study programme. The only exceptions are documented cases of personal illness or a close family bereavement. All holidays and breaks must follow the exact rules set by the Irish Department of Justice.
Students travelling from inside the European Economic Area should get an EHIC or EEA card before travelling to Ireland. If you require a student visa, you must have medical insurance that covers your entire stay in Ireland, and your policy document must be written in English. The school can help you buy medical insurance for an extra fee before you arrive or on your start date.
