Founded in 2011, Cork English Academy sits right in the heart of Cork city inside a beautifully restored 1800s flour mill. The brickwork and historic building give the campus a distinctly Irish character, but the community inside is entirely global. The school takes pride in its mature and diverse student body. It is strictly for adults aged 18 and over, with an average student age of 26. Over the years, the academy has hosted students from more than 80 different countries. Students can choose between staying with a local host family or booking a room in a shared student apartment. Host families offer both fully catered and self-catering options. The shared apartments are located within walking distance of the school.

How big are the classes?

The school keeps class sizes small with a maximum of 15 students per room. This ensures the teachers can support each student’s individual progress.

What facilities are on campus?

The building has free Wi-Fi, bright classrooms, a library for self-study, and a relaxed common area with vending machines. Please note that hot meals cannot be eaten on the premises, but the city centre location means there are plenty of cafes and restaurants right outside the door.

Can absolute beginners (A0 level) study at the academy?

No. Cork English Academy does not offer classes for absolute beginners. You will receive a two-part online level test (multiple choice and speaking) by email 12 weeks before your course begins, and you must complete it that same week. If your results show an A0 level, you will have to either cancel your booking or push your start date back by at least three months to give yourself time to study at home.
