Ireland

An established, English-speaking destination with a clear, reliable path for students who want to study, work and build a career in Europe.

Why Study in Ireland?

Ireland offers a rare combination for international students. It has a well-established, government-backed education system, English language schools with real teaching standards, and direct access to one of the strongest economies in Europe. Students get a proper education alongside a real chance to build a working life in the country while they study.

The country is also home to European operations for major companies including Google, Apple and Pfizer. That means the businesses hiring near your school are the same companies people recognise around the world. Studying in Ireland puts you close to that kind of employer, not just close to a classroom.

Life outside school varies a lot depending on where you choose to study. Dublin moves fast and offers a busy capital city with plenty going on. Cork and Galway offer a slower pace, smaller communities, and a strong sense of local history and welcome. Either way, you get access to Ireland’s landscapes, its long history, and the kind of everyday warmth the country is known for, alongside your language studies.

For students planning ahead, the visa rules matter as much as the classroom does. The Stamp 2 visa allows you to work 20 hours a week during term time, rising to 40 hours a week during the official summer and winter holiday periods. There is no automatic graduate visa for language students after the course ends, so this is not a guaranteed route to long-term work. What it does give you is real, legal working hours throughout your course, time you can use to meet employers, gain experience, and put yourself in a stronger position if you want to stay on afterwards.

Work Rights - Student Visa

When you enrol in an approved 25-week language course, you receive an 8-month visa (Stamp 2). This automatically gives you the legal right to work 20 hours per week during your studies, and up to 40 hours per week during designated summer and winter holidays.

If your passport is on the list below, you must secure your Stamp 2 Study Visa before travelling to Ireland. The process is strict, highly documented, and requires preparation.

The Study & Work Checklist (Stamp 2)

  • Financial Proof (Living Costs): €6,665. The Irish government requires you to show €833 per month of your stay. Because the standard Study & Work programme (a 6-month English course) grants an 8-month visa, you must prove access to exactly €6,665 in your bank account.
  • Proof of Paid Tuition: You must provide official receipts showing your language school fees have been paid in full prior to applying.
  • Education & Employment History: You must submit a full, chronological record of your academic and professional life. Crucial detail: Every single gap in your history (time spent unemployed, travelling, etc.) must be fully accounted for and explained. Unexplained gaps are a primary trigger for visa refusals.
  • Letter of Intent: A formal application letter detailing your reasons for studying English in Ireland, how it aligns with your career trajectory, and a written commitment that you will observe your visa conditions and leave the State upon expiry.
  • Insurance Requirements: Fully comprehensive private medical insurance. (We standardly bundle this directly into your language school enrolment).
  • Application Timeline: Apply exactly 3 months before your intended travel date. Do not book flights until your visa is officially approved.

Short-Term English Courses (Less than 90 days)

Coming for a quick language boost rather than a full Study & Work programme? You will need a Short Stay ‘C’ Visa (Tourist Visa). You cannot work on this visa, and it cannot be extended. You must show financial proof of €833 for each month of your stay, alongside a strong Letter of Intent proving ties to your home country.

If your passport is on the list below, you have a streamlined process. You do not apply for a visa at an embassy in advance; instead, you fly to Ireland and register for your Stamp 2 permission upon arrival. However, you must still arrive fully prepared.

The Study & Work Checklist (Stamp 2)

  • Financial Proof (Living Costs): €6,665. The government calculates this at €833 per month (for an 8-month visa on a 6-month English course). You do not need this to board your flight, but you must have it in your account for your Irish Residence Permit (IRP) appointment after landing.
  • Proof of Paid Tuition: Your language school fees must be fully paid. You will present the official receipt to border control and at your IRP appointment.
  • Immigration Border Pack (Intent & History): You skip the embassy, but you still face Irish Border Control at the airport. You must carry your school acceptance letter, return flight details, and be ready to articulate your “intent” (why you are studying English and your plans to return home). Be prepared to confidently explain your education and employment history if the officer asks about any gaps.
  • Insurance Requirements: Fully comprehensive private medical insurance. (We standardly bundle this directly into your language school enrolment).
  • Application Timeline: Book your programme, pack your bags, and fly. You will schedule your IRP registration immediately after arriving in Dublin, Cork, or Galway.

Short-Term English Courses (Less than 90 days)

Only studying for a few weeks? You will enter Ireland as a standard tourist. You won’t need to register for an IRP or show the full €6,665, but border control will likely ask to see proof of your return flight, your school booking, and enough funds to support your short holiday. You cannot work on a short-term stay.
